NYSNA's Governmental Affairs coordinates legislative advocacy for the Association. Governmental Affairs serves as the voice for RNs at the State Capitol, working with the state legislature and government agencies to preserve and protect the nursing profession.

The Patricia K. McGee Nursing Faculty Scholarship (as well as the NYS Nursing Faculty Loan Forgiveness Incentive) programs have been restored at $3.93 million, and reauthorized through June, 2016. The programs are also retroactive for the 2010-2011 year.
These programs provide assistance to RNs earning advanced degrees in order to become nursing educators. For additional information, you can visit the NYS Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) website.
Last year, more than 200 nursing students participated in NYSNA's Grassroots Program for Students. The program takes tomorrow's nurses from the classroom to the Capitol, where many received clinical hour credit. Students toured the Capitol and observed the Senate and Assembly during a session. Some students met with their Assembly member or Senator to speak about legislative goals.
The program proved successful with students and legislators. NYSNA is preparing the program for the spring semester. Faculty members interested in their students participating are invited to contact Kristin Salvi at 518.782.9400, ext. 245 to register.
