Tentative agreement reached at Montefiore Medical Center

BRONX, May 18, 2006 -- Registered nurses at Montefiore Medical Center reached a tentative agreement on a new contract early this morning. The most recent three-year contract for the 2,300 RNs expired Jan. 15, 2005. During this round of negotiations, Montefiore nurses were seeking a contract that could help the medical center address the nursing shortage by making a career in nursing attractive to young people, while providing an incentive for veteran nurses to remain at Montefiore. Ratification is scheduled for June 1 and 2. Details of the contract will be available after the vote.
