District 11 of the New York State Nurses Association was founded in 1919 by three alumnae associations in Ulster and Orange counties. The District originally included five counties: Greene, Orange, Ulster, Rockland and Sullivan. From the beginning, organizing meetings proved to be difficult due to its vast geographical area. Eventually redistricting was recommended. Rockland County left to form District 17. Orange and Sullivan Counties became District 18 and in January 1955, the membership voted to have District 11 to include Ulster and Greene Counties. Today District 11 encompasses registered professional nurses who live and work in these two counties.

Dolores Brink - Eleanor Bennett Nurse of the Year Award
In the nomination letter, Dolores is described as conscientious, professional, and hard working. She has served the District as chair of the membership "Committee of One" for the past ten years, as well as various Board Positions. Dolores has contributed to the profession in specialized areas of Critical Care, Cardiac Nursing and Physical Rehabilitative settings. An active community member, she always conducts herself with "much grace and diplomacy". Many of Dolores's colleagues joined us in honoring her special contributions.
Linda Upright - District 11 Honorary Recognition Award
Described in the nomination letter "as truly one of the unsung heroes”, Linda "has rendered distinguished and valuable assistance to our nursing Association". With her countless hours of publication and distribution of our Chapter's newsletter Pulse Beat 2, Linda keeps our membership current with all nursing issues that influence our nursing practice. She has served in multiple Board positions for District 11. Linda has enjoyed a varied nursing carrier with a common thread of professional contribution to women's health issues. She has further spread her nursing influence to her church community, as a leader in parish nursing and the Mission Team. The membership extends Linda our thanks and congratulations.
