Responsibilities Budget Title: TH Assistant Director of Nursing

Qualifications Required NYS RN Licensure. Minimum five years post-licensure in nursing with progressive leadership responsibilities. Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or related field. Minimum five years management/supervisory experience. Psychiatric nursing experience three years. Proficiency in computer skills.
Qualifications Preferred Brief Description of Duties:
  • Manages the daily activities of their assigned unit.
  • Secures appropriate staffing levels based on unit trends, and available bench marking data.
  • Ensures completion of shift and/or daily patient care and unit assignments based on patient acuity and nurses’ levels of practice through delegation to appropriate staff.
  • Delegates specific tasks to subordinates according to their abilities and the task at hand, providing them with direction and supervision for successful task completion.
  • Ensures staff compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Establishes and secures maintenance of par levels of equipment and supplies needed to provide direct and indirect patient care.
  • Conducts staff meetings, maintains minutes and attendance records, reviews findings and takes corrective action where appropriate and provides follow-up.
  • Reviews monthly and vacation time schedules.
  • Interviews and recommends selection of nursing staff.
  • Assures the completion of the annual staff evaluations, and performance programs in a timely manner, acts as reviewer.
  • Provides first level counseling and recommends disciplinary action. Assists in the resolution of ethical, legal or risk management issues by utilizing appropriate resources.
Special Notes: Shift: Full-time day position, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. All hospital positions are subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. Please note: Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment.
