Resources

The Association’s library resources range in time from the late 1800’s to the present with the following content –

• Books and documents - more than 9,000 individual titles
• Periodicals and newsletters - 250 current titles received with a total of over 400 titles owned
• Audiovisual titles - more than 200 non-clinical, issues-based items
• Computerized resources - access to hundreds of databases in a variety of subject areas related to nursing and health care

Special Collections

Following are a selection of the Association library's special collections –

• American Nurses Association documents from the mid 1930’s to the present;
• National League for Nursing documents from the mid 1930’s to the present;
• New York State government documents related to nursing and health care from the mid 1940’s to the present;
• United States government documents related to nursing and health care from the mid 1940’s to the present;
• Official state nurses association newsletters from the mid 1960’s to the present;
• Pre-1945 historical book collection.

Historical Records

In the 1980's, a Records Management program was established to arrange and categorize the records of the association. The program allows for control of the departmental and program records throughout their life cycle. Active association records are not available for public researchers. However, many of the records document the history of the association as well as the history of nursing in New York State. These records are ultimately archived at the Foundation of the New York State Nurses Association where they are available to researchers by appointment.
