NYSNA Annual Lobby Day: Tuesday, April 20, 2010
Update: 15 April - Lobby Day pre-registration has ended. On-site registration is available on the Concourse Level outside the Empire State Plaza Convention Center entrance from 8:00 to 10:00 AM, Tues., Apr 20. Thank you.

Empire State Plaza Convention Center, Albany, NY
Join New York nurses and nursing students as they converge in New York's capital to meet with legislators and speak with one voice about issues that impact working conditions and patient care. On April 20, join your colleagues in Albany and urge our State Legislature to support nursing education, safe staffing ratios, punish violence against nurses, and require safe patient handling policies.

Lobby Day Materials and Information
- “Legislative and Political Activity: Why Nurses Must Be Involved,” an updated on-line legislative advocacy course is now available as a free resource to help you prepare for Lobby Day. The course is available at no cost until April 30, and can be accessed online. The course will benefit RNs interested in advocacy, even those who can’t attend Lobby Day.

2010 Lobby Day PAC Luncheon
Get the inside story on politics at the State Capitol and support the NYSNA Political Action Committee (PAC). A special guest speaker (to be announced) will offer a unique perspective on how not-for-profit organizations can have a voice in Albany.
Fee for this hot buffet lunch is $45.; reservations can be made with your Lobby Day online registration.

Contact Hours
The New York State Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
A total of 1.5 contact hours will be awarded to attendees who complete lobbying reports and an evaluation form.

Directions/Parking
Check-In/Registration
Check-in and registration begins at 8:00 AM in the Concourse directly outside of the Convention Hall. Use the following maps to navigate to the check-in area, and throughout the Empire State Plaza:

Traveling by car
See Driving Directions and Parking for general directions and recommended parking areas. For door-to-door driving directions to the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, Albany, NY use an online resource such as mapquest.
Photo ID is required for all visitors who wish to park at the Empire State Plaza Visitors lot, including the driver and all passengers. Those without proper ID will not be allowed to park at the Empire State Plaza, and must use alternative lots (see map).
Capitol/Legislative Office Buildings Security
Please be prepared to present a photo ID and pass through a security checkpoint when going to appointments with legislators. You're required to pass through a metal detector and your belongings are scanned through an x-ray machine. Knives, guns, explosive devices, whistles, chains, or sticks (that can be used as weapons) are NOT allowed in these buildings.
