Nurses at Westchester Square are fighting to save our Bronx neighborhood’s community hospital.
Montefiore is buying the hospital and wants to cut patient care services — including all in-patient beds. Administrators say they will keep an Emergency Room open there, but according to documents filed with the state of New York, every free-standing ED in New York state has at least a few inpatient fews. Hospital administrators admit in the document that their proposal does not fit the state’s current definition of an ED.
