NYC Nurses — call the City Council today!

Urge support for ‘physically taxing’ status for nurses

The NYC Council Committee that makes decisions on home-rule messages - the State and Federal Committee - will meet one more time this session on Friday, June 15. We need a final push to urge them to make ‘physically taxing’ status a reality for RNs! Please act TODAY to impress upon our city representatives the importance of Home Rule Message SLR-37.

Please contact via phone, fax, and e-mail City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Councilmember Maria Baez, chair of the State and Federal Legislation Committee.

Here's the message:

“My name is _____, and I am a registered nurse at (facility). I am calling because city nurses need the council to pass a Home Rule message, SLR-37, this week to designate nursing as a “physically taxing” occupation. The bill recognizes that city nurses work is of a physically taxing nature, rectifies a gender inequity that exists in the NYCERS pension plan, and is cost-neutral to the city. We thank you for your support last year and are respectfully asking for your help once again. Can we count on you? Thank you and have a good day.”
