NYSNA reached a tentative agreement on a new contract for registered nurses employed by Sullivan County.
The agreement was reached late Monday after several days of intensive negotiations. RNs will vote on the agreement on Friday, Nov. 14. Details of the contract will be available afterward. More than 40 RNs and supporters picketed in from of the Sullivan County Government Center in Monticello and County Public Health offices in Liberty on Nov. 6. The 62 RNs work in Public Health Services, the Adult Care Center, the County Jail, and in Community Services. They help to prevent communicable diseases, staff immunization clinics, provide in-home services to infants, the elderly, and the disabled, and they help people recover from mental illness and addiction.
The New York State Nurses Association is the voice for nursing in the Empire State. With more than 36,000 members, it is the state's largest union and professional association for registered nurses. It supports nurses and nursing practice through education, research, legislative advocacy, and collective bargaining.
