Now posted on NYSNA's YouTube Channel: NYSNA President Karen A. Ballard, MA, RN, FAAN, celebrates Medicare’s 46th anniversary (July 30) by advocating for Medicare as a model for a single-payer system.
As Ms. Ballard notes, “This country needs a Medicare program that provides high quality care and is financially sustainable. The way to manage costs, now and into the future, is by providing the right care at the right time. As we move to strengthen our healthcare delivery system, we must develop and use models of service that provide coordinated, primary and preventive health care for all. Nurses believe that with a focus on innovation and improving patient outcomes, we can strengthen the Medicare program, and use it to model a cost-effective healthcare system that puts patients first.”
