NYSNA supports AFL-CIO Statewide Campaign Opposing Tier 6 ProposalNYSNA is supporting the recently launched NYS American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) statewide campaign opposing the rollback of middle class retirement security, responding to the proposal to create Tier 6 – a new, woefully inadequate retirement plan for nurses, teachers, firefighters, and other employees of state and local government.
NYSNA, along with other statewide labor organizations, is standing with the NYS AFL-CIO in their opposition to the Tier 6 proposal. Pensions greatly benefit the state's economy, with retirees spending their money in their communities, supporting local businesses and jobs. NYSNA agrees that pensions should be viewed as an economic stabilizer for middle-class families and their local economies.
The NYS AFL-CIO Campaign Opposing Tier 6 will be taking to the airwaves with a new commercial, urging New Yorkers to contact state leaders and voice their opposition to this proposal that will affect medical and emergency personnel (including nurses), law enforcement and firefighters and other working professionals who provide vital services to the citizens of New York every day. We urge NYSNA members and their families and friends to join us in this important movement.
