Nurses Association Announces Election Results

Latham, NY, October 27, 2008 – At its annual business meeting held this year in Rye, N.Y., the New York State Nurses Association announced election results for its Board of Directors. Each member will serve a two-year term. The elections were held via balloting of all 36,000-plus RN members.

Vice President: Lorna Samuels

Samuels, MSN, ANP, GNP, RN, BC, former board of directors secretary, lives in Brooklyn and works in the Bronx at Morrisania Diagnostic and Treatment Center, a New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) facility.

Secretary: Mary J. Finnin

Former treasurer of NYSNA and member of the NYSNA Political Action Committee (PAC) Board of Trustees, Finnin, MS, RN, has been elected to a new post where she can share her expertise as a board member.

Director at Large: Anne Bové

Bové, MSN, RN, is a clinical instructor at Bellevue Hospital Center in Manhattan, an HHC facility. A former president of the NYSNA Delegate Assembly, this is her first term on the board of directors.

Director at Large: Judy Sheridan-Gonzalez

Former director at large, Sheridan-Gonzalez, MSN, RN, has been elected to serve on the board once again. She is currently a staff nurse at Montefiore Medical Center Moses Division in the Bronx.

Director at Large: Barbara Crane

Crane, RN, has been re-elected to her second two-year term as director at large. She lives in Smithtown and works at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center. She is currently president of the Delegate Assembly and serves on the ANA Board of Directors.

Director at Large: John Hiltunen

Hiltunen, RN, will serve for his first time on the board of directors. He is currently a staff nurse at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in Manhattan.

The New York State Nurses Association is the voice for nursing in the Empire State. With more than 36,000 members, it is the state's largest union and professional association for registered nurses. It supports nurses and nursing practice through education, research, legislative advocacy, and collective bargaining.
