ECMC and nurses to discuss plans to improve safety at news conference

BUFFALO, Sept. 19, 2011 – A cooperative management/labor initiative to improve safety in the behavioral health and emergency psychiatric units at Erie County Medical Center will be discussed at a news conference at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in front of the medical center at 462 Grider Street.

The news conference is being organized by the New York State Nurses Association, the union that represents the medical center’s nearly 1,000 registered nurses. The Nurses Association will be joined by representatives from the medical center, other labor unions, and community leaders.

The New York State Nurses Association is the voice for nursing in the Empire State. With more than 37,000 members, it is New York’s largest professional association and union for registered nurses. The association represents registered nurses, and some all-professional bargaining units, in New York and New Jersey. It supports nurses and nursing practice through education, research, legislative advocacy, and collective bargaining.
