The first law allows nurse practitioners to sign death certificates. This new law will take effect 6 months from the date the bill was signed by the Governor, which was July 20, 2011.
The second allows nurse practitioners to conduct a medical exam and complete the report required prior to admission to an assisted living residence or an adult care facility; and allows the use of a shorter form when a current resident is returning to either setting after a hospital or nursing home stay. This new law was effective immediately after the Governor signed it on July 20, 2011.
