Delegate Assembly Notes

by Mark Genovese

Welcome to new DA Representatives

The Delegate Assembly starts out the 2007-08 program year with 13 new members. They are:

Zone 1 — Debra Austin, Carthage Area Hospital
Zone 2 — Dianne Gray, Ellis Hospital
Zone 3 — Robin Brennan, Cortland County Health Department
Zone 4 — Dennis Lindell, Erie County Medical Center
Zone 6 — Patricia Coll, Catskill Regional Medical Center
Zone 7 — Sue Casadone, St. John’s Riverside Hospital; Rose Fiore, St. John’s Riverside Hospital
Zone 8 — Virginia Labusohr, Southside Hospital
Zone 9 — Patricia DiLillo, Montefiore Medical Center; Eileen Dunn, Saint Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center, Manhattan; Miriam Goldstein, Mount Sinai Hospital; Fay Randall, Metropolitan Hospital Center
Zone 10 — Patti Buckwalter, New York Methodist Hospital; Patricia Rochford, Maimonides Medical Center; Norma Wilson, Coney Island Hospital

Casadone was named to an assembly seat when the biennial calculation determined her zone had gained enough members to be entitled to an additional representative. Returning to the Delegate Assembly after previously completing earlier terms were Audrey Ludmer and Patricia Holloman from Mount Sinai Hospital, both in Zone 9.

Legislative Priorities

The Delegate Assembly’s priorities for the upcoming state legislative session include safe staffing ratios, protecting nurses from workplace violence, reforming the state’s Taylor Law, eliminating the abuse of mandatory overtime, developing safe patient handling programs, and achieving the “physically taxing” designation for nurses employed by the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and mayoral agencies.

Nominate a colleague for the DA Award!

The Delegate Assembly is now accepting nominations for the 2008 Delegate Assembly Award. The award honors a past or present local bargaining unit officer who has made outstanding contributions to their bargaining unit while in office. A nominee must be a current NYSNA member, an elected LBU officer within the past three years, and not a current member of the Delegate Assembly. Nomination forms must be mailed to NYSNA before March 17. The award will be presented during NYSNA’s annual meeting that September. For more information, contact NYSNA at 888.551.3112, ext. 136.
