NEW YORK NURSE: October/November 2007

Other bylaws proposals defeated

Other proposed changes to the NYSNA bylaws were defeated by the 2007 Voting Body.

One would have empowered the Delegate Assembly to set the policies of the association in matters related to collective bargaining, including affiliations with other labor organizations. Another would have prohibited members who are employers of RNs or who act as agents of employers of RNs from running for or holding NYSNA offices.

Although the proposals were submitted to NYSNA within 30 days of the annual meeting as required by current bylaws, there was not enough time for them to be reviewed by the Bylaws Committee and the Board of Directors or published in the pre-convention issue of New York Nurse.

A special mailing was sent to members in mid-September with the wording of all the bylaws proposals. Copies of the proposed amendments also were distributed to all who attended the Voting Body session.

The Board is considering a bylaws change to avoid this problem in the future.
