Board polls members on UAN affiliation

National union suspends talks with SEIU

During the two weeks surrounding Labor Day, the NYSNA Board of Directors conducted a poll of all bargaining unit members on one question: “Do you want NYSNA to disaffiliate from the United American Nurses (UAN)?”

The Board decided to get input from members after it received petitions signed by more than 3,100 NYSNA members urging NYSNA to leave the UAN. The influx of petitions appeared to have been sparked by an announcement in July that the UAN was pursuing an affiliation agreement with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
