Fund helps improve NYSNA’s visibility

The Journal Advertising and Awards Reception Fund is helping to strengthen NYSNA’s ties with labor unions, community associations, and advocacy organizations that share or support its nursing and labor agenda.

So far, the fund has helped to support attendance by association members at annual award dinners and other public gatherings, as well as to purchase advertising in annual awards dinner programs.

“We may be represented by different organizations, but we’re all working toward the same goals,” said Shirley Hunter, Delegate Assembly (DA) treasurer. “No one group can do it all alone. By helping to give NYSNA a presence, this shows they can count on us to help support their goals, too.”

The fund has actually been in existence for several years, but invitations from organizations to attend their annual events and requests to take out advertising space in journals have recently increased.

So Hunter and Delegate Assembly Finance Committee members Bernadette Bellantoni and Connie Miller worked with NYSNA staff to develop a formal policy relating to how the funds are used and how more members could be encouraged to participate. The DA Finance Committee approves each expenditure.
