NEW YORK NURSE: December 2009
Dust off your mouse ears – NYSNA is headed for the “happiest place on earth.”
Medical-surgical nurses from across the country are invited to come to the Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 15-16, 2010, for NYSNA’s popular certification review course. The comprehensive, two-day workshop prepares registered nurses to take the examination for board certification in medical-surgical nursing offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
The course will be held at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, a premiere Disney hotel that captures the whimsy of a bustling 1940s boardwalk in Coney Island or Atlantic City. Thanks to a deep discount obtained by NYSNA, hotel accommodations for course participants are only $189 per night. This exclusive rate is good from Feb. 12 through 19, so attendees can extend their stay at Disney for a fraction of the usual price.
Certification is the key to an upward career path. Nurses who are certified in a specialty increase their earning potential and make them ready for new employment opportunities.
NYSNA’s review course provides the information nurses need to prepare them for the ANCC exam, covering both the physiological and psychological aspects of patient care. Participants can expect to:
The cost for the two-day course is $350, with breakfast and lunch included on both days.
Presenter Dr. Merrily Kuhn, associate professor at Daemen College and D’Youville College in western New York State, has more than 30 years of experience in education and nursing. She is a nationally recognized speaker on clinical topics and the author of several books, including the Lab Reference Pocket Guide. Her innovative teaching style has been praised by past attendees, one of whom commented, “she even manages to make fluid and electrolytes interesting.”
During their stay at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, course attendees can explore Disney’s many theme parks, or enjoy the traditional seaside amusements just steps from the hotel. Conveniently located near the Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme parks, guests of the BoardWalk Inn receive free transportation to other destinations throughout Walt Disney World Resort.
