NEW YORK NURSE: June 2009

Recharge yourself at Convention 2009

Get caught up in the excitement of Convention in historic Saratoga Springs! Don’t miss your chance to network, earn contact hours, and connect with friends at the annual New York State Nurses Association Convention, Oct. 8-11.

Our theme, “New Challenges, New Opportunities,” will be addressed during three days of plenary sessions and concurrent continuing education workshops. Four tracks of CE sessions will give you the tools you need to overcome challenges and create opportunities in your nursing career.

The keynote speaker will be nationally recognized nurse researcher Linda Aiken. Plenary sessions will feature Anne Elizabeth Quinn, on the topic of the need for nurses to take care of themselves, and Pippa White, who will present her acclaimed interpretations from the writings of Florence Nightingale, Dorothea Dix, and Clara Barton.

The traditional “Labor Day” activities for NYSNA collective bargaining unit members will include meetings of the Delegate Assembly and Congress of Bargaining Unit Leaders, plus the popular Awards Brunch. The day’s highlight will be a performance by Holly Near, a singer, songwriter, actor, and activist who has been active in the union movement for more than 25 years.

Convention registration will open on nysna.org around July 1 and registration booklets should be arriving in members’ mailboxes at about the same time. Register before Sept. 8 for an Early Bird discount. Discounts also are available to members who register as a group of four or more.

The official Convention hotel is The Saratoga Hilton at 534 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. All Convention activities will take place in the hotel or the adjacent Convention Center. The hotel is located in the midst of downtown, just steps from over 50 distinctive restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues.

Special NYSNA Convention room rates are available to those who make reservations by Sept. 13. To receive the special Convention room rate, call 888-866-3596 and provide the associate group code “PPDV” or register online at www.thesaratogahotel.com and enter “PPDV” in the Group/Convention Code box.
