NEW YORK NURSE: June 2010
by Mark Genovese
NYSNA believes its local bargaining units should strive to build strong relationships with other community residents and organizations throughout the year – not just at contract time.
This is why the Delegate Assembly established the Journal Ads/Awards’ Dinners/Reception Fund several years ago.
The fund helps to strengthen NYSNA’s ties with labor unions, community associations, and advocacy organizations that share or support its nursing and labor agenda. Members have used it to support their attendance at annual award dinners and other public gatherings, as well as to purchase advertising in annual awards dinner programs.
“We may be represented by different organizations, but we’re all working toward the same goals,” said Eileen Dunn, Delegate Assembly treasurer. “By helping to give NYSNA a presence, this shows they can count on us to help support their goals, too.”
Delegate Assembly members and NYSNA staff have developed a formal policy relating to how the funds are used and how more members could be encouraged to participate. The Finance Committee approves each expenditure.
The committee may require up to two weeks to process requests. All applications must be accompanied by a cover letter and supporting documentation and must be submitted to NYSNA’s New York City Office to the attention of Delegate Assembly Treasurer at 120 Wall Street, 23rd Floor, New York, NY 10005 or by fax at (212) 785-0429. Political fundraisers are not eligible.
During the past year, members have supported events sponsored by:
NYSNA members who are interested in using the fund to help to increase their bargaining unit’s visibility should contact their NYSNA representative.
