NEW YORK NURSE: November 2010
Denise A. Famolaro, of Norwich, NY, has been appointed the 2010 Research Fellow by the Central New York Nurses Center for Nursing Research Planning Committee of the Foundation of New York State Nurses. Famolaro is currently employed at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY.
At Bassett, Famolaro works as the Cardiac Care Data Coordinator and has recently been appointed to be the site manager for a multi-site study of heart failure. She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the American Nurses Association, NYSNA, and the Council for the Advancement of Research and Evidence-based Nursing Practice at Bassett.
Famolaro comes to nursing from a career in accounting and business management. She attended SUNY Delhi and received her bachelor’s of science in nursing from Hartwick College. She is currently enrolled in an MSN program at SUNY-IT. Famolaro hopes to learn more about the research process and to develop and implement a research project focused on nurse fatigue - a project she began at Hartwick College.
As a Research Fellow, Famolaro will be sponsored by NYSNA. This program, two to three years in length, is intended to increase the Fellow’s understanding of professional organizations, and prepare them for involvement in the research activities of these associations. The Fellow will choose a mentor from the Planning Committee who will guide them in their research project. In addition, they participate in meetings of the Planning Committee.
The search for the 2011 Research Fellow, also supported by NYSNA, will begin soon. Watch the NYSNA and Foundation websites for further information, or contact jwestcott@FoundationNYSNurses.org.
