NEW YORK NURSE: September 2010
NYSNA’s council members, who serve on the Council on Nursing Practice (CNP) and Practice Focus Groups (PFGs), provide valuable insight with regards to nursing practice and association initiatives. The chair and three members of the CNP are appointed by the NYSNA Board of Directors (BOD), along with a designated BOD liaison. PFG members are elected during the annual NYSNA meeting.
The work of the Practice Focus Groups cannot be effectively accomplished without the regular attendance and input of each elected member at NYSNA’s yearly meeting and throughout the year at quarterly CNP meetings. The appointed CNP and elected PFG members collaborate to identify and prioritize nursing practice issues from their area of expertise, promote significant issues as directed by association members, and establish specific objectives and action plans to guide the work of the CNP and NYSNA staff. This communication and collaboration assists both the CNP and the BOD to move the association’s mission forward, ensure full representation, and effectively address membership needs.
Members are expected to attend CNP meetings in Latham, unless advance notice has been provided. Per association bylaws, “Absence from two consecutive regular meetings of an executive committee or Council on Nursing Practice shall be cause for declaring a vacancy in the position. Such vacancy shall be declared by a majority vote of the BOD.”
