NEW YORK NURSE: June/July 2012
by Erin Silk
NYSNA member Eileen Letzeiser took a break from lobbying on April 17 to lead a NYSNA delegation to ask New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli to investigate staffing cuts and exorbitant executive salaries at Westchester Medical Center.
The comptroller and members of his executive staff listened for member concerns for more than an hour.
Letzeiser opened the meeting by describing the challenges WMC nurses face due to short staffing and outsourcing. “WMC execs are being rewarded for laying off staff and outsourcing critical services,” said Letzeiser. “It’s time to open the books at WMC. Our priority should be our patients – not lining executives’ pockets.”
As New York’s top fiscal officer, the comptroller has the power to audit all state entities – including Public Benefit Corporations like WMC.
