What is a Steward?
Shop stewards are working nurses, trained to deeply understand a facility’s contract and the rights of his or her fellow nurses. The steward is trained to successfully organize collective actions, to enforce the contract, and to represent and counsel nurses facing discipline.
Stewards are essential: they are leaders that represent the union on the job. NYSNA’s goal is to have a shop steward on every shift and every unit. Hundreds of nurses are currently going through training for this role. A strong network of stewards will make our union powerful.
Become a Steward!
All members deserve well-informed and confident representation. You will complete the NYSNA training program, before you are asked to be the representative in a disciplinary hearing. We offer training sessions throughout the year in multiple locations throughout New York.
