Strength At Work

Chanting “We Care for New York,” hundreds of NYSNA nurses and 1199SEIU caregivers picketed for respect at Brooklyn’s Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center and East Harlem’s Terence Cardinal Cooke long-t

A little rain didn't stop NYSNA RNs from turning out to talk to our Oneonta community about Safe Staffing. Our message: we’re spread too thin at A.O. Fox Hospital. We’re calling on hospital management to commit in writing to a plan to improve staffing and reduce nurse turnover and burnout. NYSNA is our voice to speak out and improve patient care.

If “The Wizard of Oz’s” Tin Man and Lion are in search of heart and courage, they need only look to the RNs of Nathan Littauer Hospital to find them.

Myrna Balbuena, a NYSNA RN at Shore Medical Center, won The Press of Atlantic City’s “Salute to Nurses” contest earlier this month.

Called “a modern day Florence Nightingale,” and “the epitome of nursing,” by her co-worker, Dorothy Rudert, who submitted the nomination, Balbuena has a reputation for going above and beyond for her patients, and jumping to volunteer for others in times of need – not only at work, but in the rest of her time as well.

Save the Date: NYSNA nurses have made it our mission to care for all New Yorkers. Join us for two packed days of solidarity, education, advocacy, and fun — the 2014 NYSNA Biennial Conference, September 16 and 17 at New York’s Javits Center.

The future of patient care in Rockland County is looking brighter, thanks to a new contract just inked by NYSNA RNs at Nyack Hospital.

It was not easy. Across the country, employers are demanding that nurses and our families make big sacrifices. Inequality is on the rise. Nyack execs wanted record cuts in our health benefits.

Imagine what the future of healthcare will look like if employers get their way. Fewer and fewer people will go into the profession of nursing. More nurses will burn out. Veteran nurses will leave. Patient care will suffer.

NYSNA nurses are pushing against that trend. And we won big in Nyack.

Before she was a nurse, Christine Walthers was a professional actress on and off Broadway.
