Coler/Goldwater Hospital & Nursing Facilities: AWS at risk

NYSNA is urging its members to support their colleagues at Coler and Goldwater Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facilities. Hospital management is currently seeking to eliminate Alternate Work Schedules (AWS) at these facilities.

Elimination of AWS for Coler/Goldwater RNs will force many skilled registered professional nurses to leave for work at another HHC or private-sector facilities that offers AWS, impacting not only staff morale, but affecting patient care, given the anticipated number of resignations by both senior and more recently hired registered nurses.

Campaign Update: 1 May

Coler-Goldwater RNs continue the Fight For AWS!

While Coler-Goldwater management continues to ignore patient care concerns with elimination of 12-hour Alternate Work Schedules, the registered professional nurses of Coler/Goldwater are standing strong, united and committed to restore AWS for their patients and their colleagues. As predicted, several RNs have resigned since AWS was eliminated, and the number of nursing hours per patient day has decreased.

New York State Assemblyman Micah Kellner, City Councilmember Jessica Lappin and other officials continue to encourage management to consider compromise and a return to the negotiation table.

The RNs of Coler/Goldwater and NYSNA are committed to restoring AWS, and will focus on demonstrating the increase in management's costs, disputing their assessment of the benefits of ending AWS, and above all remaining a strong voice to advocate for safe patient care. We encourage all nurses to stand with their Coler-Goldwater colleagues. Contact your NYSNA representatives for continuing updates on how you can help your fellow nurses in this struggle!

Dear Mr. Aviles and Mr. Ritman:

I am writing to express support for my Registered Professional Nurse colleagues and fellow NYSNA members at Coler and Goldwater Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facilities, as I have been informed you are seeking to eliminate Alternate Work Schedules (AWS) at these facilities.

You must understand if you eliminate AWS, you will force many skilled registered professional nurses to leave these facilities to work at other HHC or private-sector facilities that offers AWS. This will not only impact staff morale, but also will affect patient care, given the anticipated number of resignations by both senior and more recently hired nurses.

In the interest of the patients, their families, and the communities we serve, we call on you to retain AWS at Coler and Goldwater.

Sincerely,
[Concerned NYSNA Registered Professional Nurse]

Many thanks and much appreciation for your support and encouragement… check back often for updates!
