While the NYSNA Pension Plan grew by more than $350 million dollars in assets last year, the Plan is ineligible for “green” funding status due to future deficiencies projected by the Plan's actuaries. The Plan was certified as critical (“red”) status on March 31 for the 2010 Plan Year.
This status requires the development of a rehabilitation plan by the Pension Plan Board of Trustees. This plan must be completed by November 26, the federal deadline. Any changes to the Pension Plan as a result of the negotiated rehabilitation plan will likely be enacted on or after January 1, 2012.
NYSNA has formed a Special Pension Rescue Task Force to educate members and build a mobilization campaign to advocate for maintaining the current plan. We encourge members to check back often for updates and notices. Pension questions or concerns should be directed to the New York State Nurses Association Pension Plan, online at rnbenefits.org or by phone at 877.RN BENEFITS. Questions about the Campaign should be directed to your NYSNA Nursing Representative.
