NYSNA Executive Director Pat Kane, RN

Patricia “Pat” Kane, RN, CNOR, is the executive director of the New York State Nurses Association, New York's largest union and professional association of registered nurses.

She has served as NYSNA’s Executive Director since April 2020, and prior to that, she served as NYSNA Director at Large and as Union Treasurer. Kane began her career as a nurse at Staten Island University Hospital/ Northwell Health and has been active in her North Shore Staten Island community for decades. Kane has been a committed voice in the fight to address disparities in access to care and in advocating for quality care, community engagement, and social and economic justice.

I’m devastated to report that over the past few days, several NYSNA members have fallen victim to COVID-19.

NYSNA has been working nonstop over the past few weeks to address this unprecedented pandemic.

The story of Shalon Irving is shocking. Thanks to reportage of ProPublica and NPR the demise of this extraordinary African American scientist and mother was brought to the public in late 2017.

Sandy made landfall just two days after the end of our NYSNA convention last year. Hundreds of nurses, including me and many of my colleagues at Staten Island University Hospital, were mandated to stay at our facilities. Some of us went home to find our houses destroyed or unlivable. Worse, some lost neighbors and loved ones. Yet NYSNA nurses throughout the affected areas showed courage and strength. By Pat Kane, RN
