SPAN Regional Coordinator– Metropolitan Area
POSITION SUMMARY: This position will report to the Statewide Peer Assistance for Nurses (SPAN) Program Director. Regional Coordinators are responsible for development, implementation and maintenance of NYSNA’s Statewide Peer Assistance for Nurses (SPAN) program in a defined regional area.
**Flexible schedule, with some evening and weekend work. Travel required **
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES:
- Recruit potential advocates and oversee all advocate related activities including the formulation of procedures, and initial and ongoing training of advocates.
- Provide consultation to employers, collective bargaining representatives, treatment providers, colleagues, and other relevant individuals and groups regarding SPAN.
- Educate regional and state judicial, law enforcement, regulatory, and other agencies about chemical dependency and nursing issues.
- Establish and maintain linkages with resources.
- Develop and present SPAN outreach programs.
SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES:
- Respond to calls within 48 hours.
- Conduct intake assessments on potential SPAN participants.
- Conduct initial assessments of nurses interested in Professional Assistance Program (PAP) affiliation and recommend appropriate PAP track, if indicated.
- Provide advocacy and support for participating nurses in legal, regulatory, employment, or other relevant meetings.
- Prepare written summaries of participants’ progress in SPAN for PAP meetings.
- Establish and maintain peer support groups for nurses who participate in SPAN; oversee peer support group facilitation and processes.
- Collaborate with other SPAN staff to develop activities that promote early identification of, and support for, nurses affected by their own or another’s addictive disease and mental health problems.
- Interview potential advocates.
- Conduct advocate trainings in assigned region.
- Chair and prepare written summaries of regional advocate meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- RN
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant specialty area and at least three years of experience in the management of substance abuse prevention, intervention or peer assistance, and mental health programs
- Experience in public presentation, training and education, and chemical dependency issues required
- Software proficiency in Word and PowerPoint.
