Letter from Anne Bové, RN, President, NYSNA HHC Executive Council

My Fellow Nurses,

On behalf of our 37,000 members I am proud to announce NYSNA’s first-ever endorsement in a New York City mayoral race. We could not sit on the sidelines when the lives of so many New York patients are at stake. That’s why NYSNA is endorsing Bill de Blasio for mayor.

We know that Bill de Blasio will work tirelessly to protect our patients as mayor, just as he has worked tirelessly as public advocate to keep our hospitals open for care. We know he will fi ght to end the epidemic of hospital cuts and closures in New York City.

New York City’s Health and Hospitals Corporation is the best public hospital system in the country. No patient is turned away, regardless of income or insurance status. But the crisis of hospital cuts and closures is pushing our system beyond capacity. If we do not act now, more patients will be left without access to the care they need. That’s why we need to elect Bill de Blasio as mayor of New York City.

Bill has been with us every day throughout our fi ght to keep New York City hospitals open for care. He has put pressure on powerful institutions like SUNY and stopped them from sacrifi cing patient care for real estate profi ts. No other candidate has shown as much commitment and dedication to protecting care for New York City patients.

He is the people’s public advocate, and he’ll be the people’s mayor.

I hope you will join me in voting for Bill de Blasio for mayor on Tuesday, September 10th.
