Peekskill, NY — The New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) announced today that the almost 270 registered nurses at Hudson Valley Hospital in Peekskill have voted to join the union.

The decision to join the union was ratified late Thursday night after one day of voting. The vote was 130 in favor, 118 against.

The vote was monitored by the National Labor Relations Board.

The decision comes as nurses demand:

  • A voice in staffing decisions to make sure enough nurses are on hand to give every patient the care they need and deserve.
  • A fair wage.
  • A fair benefit plan that will help recruit and retain the best of the best.
  • A fair retirement package.

This vote comes on the heels of almost two thousand registered nurses at Albany Medical Center approving a unionization vote in April of this year.

In December of 2017, over 250 registered nurses at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel also voted overwhelmingly to join the New York State Nurses Association.
