Rest in Peace, Katy Peterson, RN

Katy Peterson, RN, a beloved member of our NYSNA family, died tragically in an automobile accident yesterday. Katy was a devoted and talented Med/Surg nurse at Nathan Littauer Hospital and an inspiring union leader. She will be deeply missed by her fellow nurses and by her patients.

At 27, Katy was already a role model for younger nurses at Nathan Littauer. She taught LPNs through the BOCES program at Nathan Littauer, and she was a tremendous teacher and mentor to her students.

She was a dedicated union leader who was always ready to go the extra mile to improve care for her patients and working conditions for her colleagues.

Katy was fiercely dedicated to her family and friends. Her friends described her as someone who had a smile on her face even on the worst of days, and who could lift patients and nurses up whenever they were feeling down. She was never afraid to speak her mind and she shared her warmth and humor with all around her.

Halloween was her favorite holiday, and she would celebrate it for months with playful costumes. She loved to sew and once created a spectacular scarecrow costume in just one evening to use for a union event.

We will mourn the loss of Katy Peterson, RN, beloved nurse and member of our NYSNA family.
