What is a Member Leader?

Member Leaders are working nurses trained to deeply understand their facility’s contract and the rights of their fellow nurses. NYSNA’s Labor Education department trains nurses to become Member Leaders so they can successfully organize collective actions, enforce their contract, and represent and counsel nurses facing discipline.

All members look to Member Leaders for union representation and guidance on the job. NYSNA’s goal is to have a Member Leader on every shift and in every unit. Hundreds of nurses are currently training for this role because a strong network of Member Leaders makes our union powerful. Join them!

Become a Member Leader!

All NYSNA members deserve well-informed and confident representation, and Member Leaders can provide it. NYSNA's leadership training series trains Member Leaders to build union power, advocate for their patients, and make positive changes in their workplace. In four sessions, attendees will learn about the responsibilities of the role, how they can improve working conditions at their facility, tools for collective advocacy and engaging their community, and campaign tactics.

Training sessions are offered throughout the year in multiple locations across New York state and online. Learn more about taking the next step to becoming a Member Leader!
