Presby RNs win Safe Staffing victory

This spring, staffing at Presbyterian’s Children’s Hospital Emergency Department was getting just too low. We were struggling to make sure that our patients got the best possible care. We decided to do something about it – and we won staffing improvements!

In one month, we documented 170 Protests of Assignment. At first, management told us, “We have to take a look at this.” We insisted on immediate action. Shortly after, management hired new RNs to the unit.

With the new RNs, we’ve seen the condition of care improve for our patients. Having enough skilled nurses is key to safe care - and our collective action made this safe staffing victory possible. This is an ongoing struggle. We will keep uniting for our patients so that they continue to receive the best care.
