Staten Island Candidates Speak Out for Safe Staffing

Elections are coming up on Tuesday, November 4. We need to back candidates who support safe staffing.

“My father was just at SIUH,” said Assembly Member Nicole Malliotakis. “I saw nurses on their feet all day. We need safe staffing!"

Malliotakis was just one of the state and federal candidates who joined a standing-room only crowd in Staten Island for a NYSNA candidates forum. We shared the key issues impacting our patients and our practice – and asked candidates to let us know how they plan to prioritize healthcare if elected.

“Nurse to patient ratios? Hospitals can't afford not to have them,” Assembly Member Matt Titone said when asked where he stands on safe staffing.

“When nurses are overwhelmed and understaffed, patient outcomes are affected,” said Stephanie Stabile, RN, Staten Island University Hospital. “I believe that there is strength in numbers. We need to have everybody on our side. We need people to bring this to our higher ups. We need to bring it to Albany. We need everyone to understand how serious the situation is.”
