Remembering Dan Anderson, RN

We’re sad to report that NYSNA Member Dan Anderson, RN passed away on Sunday, Sept. 27 after suffering a heart attack. Dan was a devoted and talented Med/Surg Nurse at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, NY and was excited to start his new assignment in the ER this week where he said that caring for emergent cases was his passion.

Dan became an RN in August of 2014, a career change after having previously worked as a truck driver before returning to school to become a nurse. No stranger to caring for others, Dan was a volunteer fire fighter and EMT for Ripley Hose #1 in Ripley, NY. He is survived by his father (who he was helping to care for in hospice) and his sister.

Just recently, Dan had become more involved within his NYSNA Bargaining Unit, and was planning to attend Convention in October. At last Wednesday’s Western New York Inter-regional Meeting, he signed up to be a safe staffing captain for his unit. In his short tenure as a nurse, Dan touched many lives and will be deeply missed by his fellow nurses and patients.
