Nurses, Community Fight Psych Unit Closing

NYSNA is gearing up to protect our community and patients.

Last week, NewYork-Presbyterian announced a plan to de-certify all 30 in-patient psychiatric beds in its Allen Hospital. NYSNA knew we had to stand up in opposition.

Through the concerted efforts of NYSNA nurses at New York-Presbyterian, including Anthony Ciampa, RN and NYSNA Second Vice President, an outpouring of support to stop the closing of the Psychiatric Ward at the hospital's Allen Hospital continues.

Nurses have spearheaded calls to protect these essential services for the community Allen has served. Elected officials have joined this chorus, as editorials and reportage are running, quoting Allen's mission as "vital health services" in the words of State Sen. Marisol Alcantara and Assemblymember Carmen De La Rosa.
