Montefiore Nurses Stand Up to Overcrowding in Emergency Rooms

At Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx, outraged NYSNA nurses, elected officials and concerned community members gathered at a press conference to bring attention to the issue of massive overcrowding in emergency rooms. The nurses made it clear that there is no excuse for forcing patients into cramped hallways. “We have patients in the emergency department waiting sometimes three days for a bed and sometimes their entire admission takes place on a gurney in the hallway,” said NYSNA President and ER Nurse Judy Sheridan-Gonzalez. With the support of Councilmember Ritchie Torres, a new hotline has been launched, giving patients and nurses a direct line with the City Council to make sure patients get the quality care they deserve.
