We Must Fight Cuts to Healthcare

Please read this flyer, outlining NYSNA's plan to fight Medicaid cuts with our allies, including SEIU 1199.

Recently, NYSNA mobilized  with other unionselected leaderscommunity groups, and healthcare activists to rally against draconian cuts that appeared in the 30 day health amendment to the budget. We  demonstrated in Albany in front of the Department of Health's headquarters pointing out that the cuts could total $1.1 billion! These cuts could result in urban and rural hospital and long term care facility closures, resulting in a loss of healthcare jobs.

It is unconscionable that the irresponsible and vindictive 2017 Federal Tax Bill targeted New York and other states that had expanded Medicaid to provide access to care for medically underserved communities. This federal retaliation has resulted in reducing New York's expected tax revenue. NYSNA, along with several of our labor and community allies, strenuously opposed the federal bill and participated in many actions protesting this attack on working families and giveaways to the ultra-wealthy.  We can not stand for denying New Yorkers healthcare, especially in a state that has so many billionaires. Here is NYSNA's official position on these cuts; and here is the analysis put forth by our allies at the Commission on the Public's Health System (CPHS), which we have submitted to the state Executive and Legislative Representatives.

That is why we kicked off one of  several demonstrations with our allies, such as Strong Economy for All, to make sure that our communities have the care they deserve. We are advocating that the Governor and New York State Legislature  protect healthcare and demand that the wealthy pay their fair share."

Stay tuned for updates on how you can get involved in the statewide rallies and demonstrations that will be coming to you.
