NYC Private Sector Nurses Announce Near Unanimous Strike Vote Results

This week started with a powerful message to private sector hospitals. On Monday, Dec. 22, NYSNA members from BronxCare Health System, The Brooklyn Hospital Center, Flushing Hospital Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center / One Brooklyn Health, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center / One Brooklyn Health, Maimonides Medical Center, Montefiore Medical Center, Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Medical Center, Richmond University Medical Center, and Wyckoff Heights Medical Center announced that 97% of private sector nurses voted in favor of authorizing a strike at all 12 facilities if hospital management does not agree to fair contracts that protect safe patient care by our Dec. 31 deadline. That means that bargaining committees will do everything possible to settle fair contracts before then. However, if management continues to delay progress and refuses to prioritize safe patient care, our bargaining committees now have the authority to give 10-day strike notices, as required by law. Striking is always a last resort, but we are ready to strike to protect care in New York City if we need to! Our press conference was covered widely in NY1, amNY, Crain’s, Brooklyn Eagle, Politico, PIX11, WNYC, FOX 5, ABC, NBC, 1010 WINS, WABC-AM, News12 Bronx, News12 Brooklyn, BK Reader, Patch, CBS, BoroPark 24 and the Staten Island Advance. Long Island Nurses Vote to Authorize Strike and Demand Northwell Negotiate Fair Contracts

In a historic moment, Northwell nurses at three facilities on Long Island, Northwell/Huntington, Northwell/Plainview and Northwell/Syosset hospitals joined the call for safe patient care and voted to authorize a strike. Nurses have been fighting for months for contracts that ensure that patients on Long Island get the care they deserve. This week, they announced a Dec. 31 deadline for their employers. That means nurses will continue to bargain through the deadline. However, it gives them the authority to drop a 10-day strike notice if management does not agree to a fair contract that ensures that Long Island patients get the care they deserve by Dec. 31. Their announcement was covered by Newsday, Patch, and News12. To learn more about Northwell’s greed, visit our “Northwealth” site.
