NYSNA Nurses at Northwell Health/Putnam Hospital to Hold Informational Picket to Demand Safe Staffing and a Fair Union Contract
After over a year of bargaining, nurses are picketing to demand Northwell settle a contract that includes enforceable safe staffing standards
Carmel, NY - New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) nurses from Northwell Health/Putnam Hospital will hold an informational picket on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m., to call for a fair union contract that includes enforceable safe staffing standards. The previous contract expired on Dec. 31, 2025, and since then, nurses have been bargaining for a new contract that prioritizes enforceable safe staffing standards in order to protect safe, quality patient care in Putnam County. At the same time, Northwell administrators are pushing for nurse-to-patient ratios that make it harder for nurses to deliver the level of care that Putnam County residents deserve. As Northwell drags its feet on settling a fair contract, nurses are escalating their campaign, with more than 100 nurses planning to picket the hospital on Thursday.
