NYSNA ENDORSES ZOHRAN MAMDANI FOR MAYOR

NYSNA Celebrates Zohran Mamdani’s Historic and Decisive Win in New York City Mayoral Primary and Endorses Mamdani’s Bold Vision for a New York City that is Affordable, People-Powered, and Democratic

New York, N.Y. -- On Friday, June 27, New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) nurses proudly endorse Zohran Mamdani for mayor of New York. On Tuesday, his inspiring grassroots campaign was victorious against a crowded field of Democratic contenders. Mamdani’s energetic campaign helped drive new and record voter turnout for a primary election and built a broad-based diverse coalition of voters inspired by his fight to address New York’s affordability crisis and his plan for New York City’s future.

Mamdani has a proven track record of solidarity with nurses, supporting working people, fighting against corporate interests, and investing in essential public services. He built a platform that prioritized affordability, public education, universal childcare, and public transit to ensure that all New Yorkers can lead a dignified life.

NYSNA is proud to endorse Mamdani after his primary victory on Tuesday. Mamdani has received the endorsement of over a dozen labor and community-based organizations in his primary campaign. NYSNA did not endorse any candidate during the Democratic primary election.

NYSNA President Nancy Hagans, RN, BSN, CCRN, said, "NYSNA is proud to support Zohran Mamdani, a candidate who consistently puts the interests of working people first, and is glad that labor is coalescing around him to meet this moment. We share his commitment to fighting for a city that provides healthcare, public transportation, education, and other vital services, so that New Yorkers don't just survive but thrive. Mamdani has shown up for nurses in our campaigns to increase funding for public hospitals, achieve pay equity for public sector nurses, prevent hospital closures, and protect New York City from future public health emergencies. Mamdani can count on NYSNA nurses for our support.”

New York City’s general election will be held on November 4, 2025.
