AS PART OF LABOR STRONG 2025 COALITION, NYSNA NURSES ENDORSE 27 CANDIDATES FOR CITY COUNCIL

Five major unions jointly endorse 27 candidates for a pro-worker majority in City Council

New York, N.Y. -- On Thurs., April 24, New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) nurses, as part of the Labor Strong 2025 Coalition representing 320,000+ workers, endorsed 27 City Council candidates. Along with NYSNA, the largest union and profession association for nurses in New York, Labor Strong 2025 includes, 32BJ SEIU, Communications Workers of America District 1 (CWA), District Council 37 (DC 37), and Hotel Trades Council (HTC). The five unions represent more than 320,000 members and voters in New York City, including nurses, doormen, telecommunications workers, public service workers, nonprofit workers, hotel workers, hospitality workers, and casino workers.

The 27 endorsed candidates have a proven track record of supporting working people and public health initiatives. Electing this slate of candidates will create a pro-worker majority in New York City Council, which is essential to supporting our communities in this city in the face of federal cuts to budgets and public services.

NYSNA President Nancy Hagans, RN, BSN, CCRN, said, "NYSNA is proud to once again work with our Labor Strong union partners in 2025 to elect a pro-worker, pro-union and pro-healthcare justice majority in the New York City Council during this critical election year for our city's future. Our Labor Strong coalition of union siblings in hotel, building service, communications and the public sector has a strong track record of success in previous elections. We are excited to announce this slate of endorsements, which includes many champions for safe staffing, fair hospital funding and health equity."

Tell Congress: No Cuts to Medicaid!

Take Action
Medicaid saves lives. Almost half of all children in New York rely on Medicaid, and many hospitals throughout the state receive the majority of their revenue from Medicaid. If we don’t succeed in stopping the cuts, our patients will lose access to healthcare and entire hospitals could close.
