NYSNA to Hold Daily Press Briefing Ahead of Jan. 12 Strike Deadline

Nurses at NYC’s Wealthiest Hospitals Continue to Fight for Safe Staffing, Healthcare Benefits, and Protections from Workplace Violence

Nurses at 5 NYC hospitals and 3 Northwell Hospitals on Long Island Set to Strike in just 4 Days if Agreements are Not Reached

Hospitals Intensify Unionbusting Actions Ahead of Strike Deadline, Still Threaten to Cut Health Benefits for Frontline Nurses

New York, NY— NYSNA will hold a virtual press briefing on Thursday, Jan. 8 from 11:00 a.m.—11:30 a.m. with NYSNA President Nancy Hagans, RN, BSN, CCRN, to provide an update on New York City contract negotiations ahead of the Jan. 12 strike deadline.

5 hospitals and nearly 16,000 nurses will go on strike in just 4 days in what will be the largest nurse strike in New York City history if hospitals do not agree to a fair contract that protects the safe staffing standards nurses won when they went on strike three years ago and healthcare coverage for the nurses who care for New York.

WHAT: NYSNA virtual press briefing

WHERE: Zoom. All participants must register at: https://nysna.zoom.us/meeting/register/OTqRfBMUTBKk4Zy76TzkIw

WHEN: Thursday, Jan. 8 from 11-11:30 a.m.

Media will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the briefing. The briefing will be recorded and distributed to members of the press who register at the link below.

While 7 NYC safety-net hospitals in Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island have agreed to maintain and pay for healthcare benefits for frontline nurses, management at the city’s wealthiest hospitals, including Mount Sinai, NewYork-Presbyterian and Montefiore, continue to delay progress and are pushing for cuts to healthcare and rollbacks on safe staffing.

If management does not agree to fair contracts, nurses at Montefiore, Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Morningside and West, NewYork-Presbyterian and Bronxcare will go on strike on Monday, January 12.

NYSNA Northwell nurses at Northwell/ Huntington, Plainview and Syosset Hospitals also delivered 10-day strike notices on Jan. 2 and are scheduled to begin their strike on Jan. 12 if they cannot reach tentative contract agreements. More than 1,000 Northwell nurses have been bargaining for months for safe staffing standards and wages and benefits that keep nurses at the bedside, while Northwell has been dragging its feet.
