NYSNA NURSES TO HOLD VIGIL TO PROTEST HEALTHCARE SHORTAGES CAUSED BY TERMINATION OF TPS FOR HAITIAN IMMIGRANTS

Nurses say the decision to terminate Haitian TPS will lead to shortages in the healthcare system that will negatively impact access to safe, quality patient care

New York, NY – On Wednesday, Aug. 5, New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) nurses will hold a vigil at Maimonides Medical Center to protest the Trump Administration’s decision to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 350,000 Haitian immigrants in the United States, leaving them vulnerable to increased enforcement activity and subject to deportation. The decision is an attack on healthcare that has had a chilling effect on workers and will create massive shortages in healthcare facilities, disrupting care in and around New York City.

WHO: NYSNA nurses, including NYSNA President Nancy Hagans, BSN, RN, CCRN, labor allies and elected officials

WHAT: Vigil protesting the end of TPS for Haitian immigrants, and the staffing shortages it will cause local hospitals and healthcare facilities
