Practice Alert: Required Completion of NYS Reporting Child Abuse Course
UPDATE: NYSNA’S NYS Child Abuse: Identification and Reporting, 8th Edition – Addendum online course is now live on our E-LeaRN platform.
The course must be completed by November 17, 2026.
Anyone who completed the NYSNA course, NYS Child Abuse: Identification and Reporting, 8th Edition, through the NYSNA E-LeaRN platform between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2025, is eligible to complete the addendum course with us. The addendum course is free for NYSNA members.
If you are eligible, you may access the addendum course by logging onto E-LeaRN, clicking ‘Browse Catalog’ and searching for ‘addendum’.
Note:
- If you completed the 8th Edition course with NYSNA but don’t see the Addendum, please contact NYSNA Nursing Education & Practice for support.
- Completing the 8th Edition – Addendum is not necessary if you have already completed the 9th Edition.
- Alternate Provider Completion - If you completed the training with another provider, you must complete the Addendum course through that provider, if available.

All licensed health practitioners are required to repeat the Identification and Reporting New York State Child Abuse program, even if you have taken the program in the past. This is a one-time requirement that each individual practitioner must complete and send proof of completion to the New York State Education Department by April 1, 2025.
The course is FREE for NYSNA members. set up your individual NYSNA account on eLearn. Contact NYSNA's membership department at 212-785-0157 if you cannot find your NYSNA member ID.
To complete this requirement for free, you must be logged into eLearn. Register for the Child Abuse Reporting Course, take the program, download your certificates of completion, and mail them to the New York State Education Department.
