PURPOSE STATEMENT
This program empowers nurses to navigate today's complex healthcare environment with confidence and resilience. As workplace challenges — including incivility, legal exposures, and burnout — continue to rise, nurses must be equipped with the skills to advocate for themselves and their patients. Through this enriching cruise seminar, participants will gain practical insights into their legal rights, communication strategies, conflict de-escalation, and self-care — all grounded in real-world nursing contexts. The program is designed to help nurses not only protect themselves professionally, but to thrive as leaders who model a culture of respect, safety, and collaboration.
To receive CHs/CEUs, all participants are required to attend all face-to-face sessions, complete all in-session program assignments, complete an evaluation form, and successfully complete all independent activities as instructed.

LEARNER OUTCOME:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to analyze their legal rights and institutional protections, navigate workplace policies, communicate effectively to de-escalate conflict, respond professionally to aggression, document and escalate incidents appropriately, practice self-care to prevent burnout, and foster a culture of civility, respect, and psychological safety in the workplace.
OBJECTIVES:
- Identify their legal rights, responsibilities, and institutional protections as nurses.
- Navigate workplace policies related to safety, violence, and professional conduct.
- Use emotional intelligence and effective communication to de-escalate tense situations.
- Respond confidently and professionally to disrespect, aggression, and unsafe behaviors.
- Protect themselves through accurate documentation and appropriate escalation pathways.
- Practice self-care strategies to manage stress, recover after difficult encounters, and prevent burnout.
- Foster a positive and collaborative workplace culture promoting civility, respect, and psychological safety.
The New York State Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Commission on Accreditation.
This program has been awarded 19.0 CHs through the New York State Nurses Association Accredited Provider Unit.
NYSNA is accredited by the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard. IACET is recognized internationally as a standard development organization and accrediting body that promotes quality of continuing education and training.
The New York State Nurses Association is authorized by IACET to offer 1.9 CEUs for this program.
