Want to make your workplace safer? We've got your back.
Protecting your patients’ health and safety doesn’t mean you ignore yours! Nursing is one of the most dangerous professions. From workplace violence, to injuries from moving patients, to infectious diseases like COVID-19, nurses are exposed to many workplace hazards.
These hazards are growing because of the increase in violence and understaffing in healthcare.
You deserve safety at work, just like your patients. Check out the FREE resources on our website about how to predict and prevent workplace violence, and what to do if you are assaulted on the job.
NYSNA has helped pass the felony assault law, won weapons detection screening systems in hospitals, proper personal protective equipment, and much more.

Who Is NYSNA?
The New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA)is New York’s largest union and professional association for registered nurses, representing more than 42,000 members for collective bargaining, advocating for professional nursing standards of practice, and promoting the health and welfare of our members, our profession, and the people of New York. NYSNA is an affiliate of National Nurses United, AFL-CIO, the country’s largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses, with more than 225,000 members nationwide.
Working together, NYSNA nurses have achieved:
- Respect. With power in numbers, nurses’ input is heard and valued.
- A seat at the table. Management is required to sit down with us to discuss our working conditions and patient care conditions. We have advocated and won health and safety improvements, and much more.
- Safe staffing. We have won enforceable nurse-to-patient safe staffing ratios to improve patient care and reduce nurse burnout.
- Great wages and benefits. We have won the best pay and benefits in the state.
- A better future for our patients. With a strong voice to advocate for our patients, we have improved patient safety through our contracts and the law.
