Leadership Academy

NYSNA’s Leadership Academy fosters the development of leadership skills, for members who want to help lead our movement for safe staffing and healthcare for all.

Following registration, NYSNA members begin TIER 1, which consists of a series of self-study modules. While not approved for nursing CE contact hours, participants must complete all five modules to be eligible to apply for TIER 2, the Leadership Fellows Program, an intensive, year-long learning experience including on-site lectures, on-line learning and webcasts, and independent study.

Applicants for TIER 3, the Graduate Program, must successfully complete Tier 2, although this requirement may be waived with submission of a portfolio that provides evidence of past leadership experiences.

Graduates receive one-on-one guidance from assigned mentors and NYSNA staff as they seek to assume leadership roles. The graduate program is an intensive, year-long learning experience involving on-site lectures, webcasts and independent study.

There is no charge for members to participate in the Leadership Academy Graduate Program, but applicants must be appointed by the NYSNA Board of Directors. Open enrollment for applications runs January 1 - April 30 of each year, but appointments generally are made during the summer. Up to five applicants are accepted each year for the Tier 3 Graduate Program.

For questions regarding the Leadership Academy program or application process, please contact Nursing Education and Practice at 518-782-9400, ext. 282 or by e-mail.
